John 4:16-26 - Stop Making Excuses!
In the twelfth message of our series through the Gospel of John, Pastor Richard continues in John 4:16–26, returning to Jesus’ encounter with the woman at the well and the life-changing truth found in His words.
As the conversation shifts, Jesus lovingly confronts the woman with the reality of her life—not to shame or condemn her, but to reveal something deeper. In doing so, we are reminded that the new life Jesus offers is not about making our current situation more comfortable, but about transforming us completely from the inside out.
This message explores the tendency we all have to make excuses, justify our choices, or deflect when confronted with truth. Like the woman at the well, we often try to avoid dealing with the deeper issues of our hearts by changing the subject or redefining truth on our own terms. Yet Jesus does not settle for surface-level change—He calls us into something greater.
Pastor Richard challenges us to see that real transformation requires surrender. Following Jesus is not a halfway commitment or something we shape around our preferences. Instead, it means allowing God to set the standard, trusting His truth over our own understanding, and facing the parts of our lives that don’t align with His will.
Through this passage, we also see the heart of Jesus clearly. He seeks us out, meets us where we are, and speaks truth into our lives—not to push us away, but to draw us into freedom. True worship, as Jesus explains, is not about location, tradition, or personal opinion, but about worshiping The Father in Spirit and in truth.
As we continue through John chapter 4, we are invited to reflect on our own lives. Are we holding onto excuses that keep God at a distance? Are we trying to define truth for ourselves, or are we willing to be shaped by His Word? And are we ready to embrace the new life Jesus offers—on His terms?
Join us as we continue our journey through the Gospel of John — learning to let go of excuses, walk in truth, and experience the freedom and new life found only in Jesus Christ.
