John 5:1-9 - Do You Want to Get Well?
In the fifteenth message of our series through the Gospel of John, Pastor Richard takes us to John 5:1-9, where Jesus asks a profound question: “Do you want to get well?”
In this powerful encounter, we meet a man who has been an invalid for thirty-eight years, waiting for healing at the Pool of Bethesda. His response to Jesus’ question reveals a deeper truth about the human condition: how our pain, unmet expectations, and struggles can lead us to feel stuck in victimhood, unable to see beyond our circumstances.
Through this passage, Pastor Richard explores the theme of restoration—how Jesus not only heals physically but also restores us mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. We learn that true healing begins with a willingness to answer Jesus’ question with an emphatic "Yes!"—a willingness to stop playing the victim and to embrace the restoration Jesus offers.
This message also highlights how we can often become so consumed by our pain that we lose sight of our hope and purpose. Pastor Richard challenges us to examine our hearts: Are we ready to be healed? Are we willing to let go of our past and allow Jesus to restore us fully?
As we reflect on this powerful story of healing, we are invited to ask ourselves: Do we want to get well? Are we ready for Jesus to bring healing, restoration, and transformation into our lives today?
