In the seventeenth message of our series through the Gospel of John, Pastor Richard begins chapter 6 by walking us through John 6:1–29 and one of the most well-known miracles in Jesus’ ministry—the feeding of the 5,000.

As large crowds continue to follow Jesus, drawn by His signs and wonders, this passage reveals something deeper than physical provision. Set against the backdrop of the Passover, a celebration centered on God’s provision and deliverance, Jesus takes a small offering and multiplies it into an abundant feast—demonstrating that life in the Kingdom of God is not marked by scarcity, but by overwhelming abundance.

Yet as the crowd responds, we begin to see a tension emerge. Many follow Jesus for what He can give them, while Jesus continually invites them to something greater. Even as He meets their immediate needs, His desire is to lead them beyond temporary satisfaction and into a deeper understanding of who He truly is.

This message also explores the powerful moment when Jesus walks on water, revealing His authority over chaos and identifying Himself with the divine name, “I AM.” For those willing to trust Him, this moment becomes an invitation into a deeper faith—one that sees beyond circumstances and recognizes Jesus as God Himself.

Through this passage, Pastor Richard challenges us with an important question: why are we following Jesus? Is it for what He can do for us, or because we truly believe in who He is?

As the crowd seeks Jesus again, He redirects their focus from food that spoils to the food that endures to eternal life, declaring that the work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.

Join us as we continue our journey through the Gospel of John — discovering a Savior who meets us in our needs, invites us deeper in faith, and reminds us that following Him has always been, and will always be, a personal choice.
