In the twenty-second message of our series through the Gospel of John, Pastor Richard continues into John 8:31–59, confronting one of the most important questions of our time: What is truth, and where is true freedom found?

As Jesus speaks to those who had begun to believe in Him, He makes a bold and life-changing declaration: “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Yet even those listening struggle to accept His words because His truth challenged their own understanding, assumptions, and sense of control.

This message explores the tension between God’s absolute truth and the world’s growing belief that truth is relative and self-defined. Pastor Richard reminds us that while our culture often teaches us to look inward as the source of truth, Jesus points us beyond ourselves to the eternal truth of God—a truth powerful enough to free us from sin, shame, comparison, fear, and the endless pursuit of validation.

Through the reactions of the crowd in John 8, we are challenged to consider how often pride, self-righteousness, or past experiences can keep us from hearing what God is trying to reveal. Rather than fearing questions or doubts, this sermon emphasizes that God invites honest conversation, genuine seeking, and a faith that engages both the heart and the mind.

As the passage builds toward Jesus’ stunning declaration, “Before Abraham was born, I am,” we are reminded that Jesus is not simply a teacher of truth—He is the very source of Truth itself, the eternal Son of God who came to bring freedom and life to the world.

Join us as we continue our journey through the Gospel of John — learning to surrender our own version of truth, trust fully in Jesus, and experience the freedom only He can give.
